Greenhouse Auctions is honored to be featuring an artwork by celebrated NY-based artist, Duane Michals. Over a career that has spanned sixty years, the artist has created an indelible body of work, from photography to film and, as seen in this artwork, painting. Among his many accolades are many of the highest awards in film and photography and countless solo and group shows held at the world’s leading institutions, from MoMA to the Barbican Art Gallery, Musée d’Orsay, Tate Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, among dozens others. His work has often woven together text, sequential cinematic stills and photography to enhance the narrative belying the final composition. More recently, the artist has begun painting—as seen in Herr Scheisse Kopf, and found the lockdown to be a particularly suitable time to draw on his creativity, resilience, and yes, outspoken political stance.
