Brazilian artist Marcelo Cipis, known for his never-ending curiosity, high energy and sparkling personality, approaches his artwork with an unmistakeable playfulness. In 'Ginástica na Exposição', or 'Gymnastics at the Exhibition', the artist depicts an exhibition visitor in the middle of an enclosed space whose walls are adorned with disparate body parts and symbols. The seeming randomness of the artwork on the walls is reflected in the figure's bent pose and proximity to the lumps of color on the floor. In doing so, the artist blends the lines between the body parts as art objects, and the body of the viewer as an unintended art object, and presents a playful commentary on the elasticity in finding meaning in art.
