Born in Angola on the west coast of Africa, Jorge Santos relocated with his family to Portugal and ultimately found himself fleeing once more following that country's revolution. Finally settling in the Unites States in 1982, the artist has since been devoting his art to create alternate realities that allow him to exercise the control and autonomy he'd lacked as a child. Often revisiting familiar faces and figures --at times real, at others fictitious--the artist ensures to continue engaging his past in Africa as he continuously makes meaning of his own personal revolutions. 'Warrior' depicts a close-up of a young woman's face, her searing and fearless gaze exuding pride and confidence. For Jorge, the mission is to keep the mystery of the protagonist, stating, "I want to create a new story every time in each painting, but also want to ensure the question for the viewer never fails to be, 'What will happen next…?'"
